Bob Vandergrift joined the House of Refuge board in November, 2009. At the mission, he is known as the man with the comic books because he gives out tracts in the form of little comic books. Those tracts have been instrumental in leading people to accept Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord! Bob has been volunteering in street ministry since 1981 when the House of Refuge was still located in the basement of the Cochrane Block on 96 Street. In addition, Bob and his wife, Joanne, have a prison ministry at the Fort Saskatchewan Jail once a month.
