Linda Dumont, the Sunday evening minister at the House of Refuge Mission, lives and works in the inner city by choice. She has been volunteering in street ministry since she was called to preach the gospel in the inner city in 1989, first as a volunteer with another ministry, then as director of Christ Love Ministry from 1990 to 2003, when joined theministry team at the House of Refuge Mission. She is known as one of the spiritual leaders of the inner city. In addition to her volunteer work at the mission, she is founder and editor of Edmonton Street News, a street newspaper that provides employment for the homeless and those marginalized by poverty. Dumont has visited cities across North America to attend street newspaper conferences, and to learn more about living conditions for the homeless. She has spoken at churches, demonstrations, the annual Good Friday Way of the Cross, to university and college classes, and to those in political power on behalf of the homeless. She believes that as Christians we must take our place, like Queen Esther, to speak for those who are unable to speak for themselves. In 2003 she received the Queen Elizabeth Second Golden Jubilee medallion in recognition of the value of her writing in giving a voice to those in poverty.
